The Bagabonn Wine Bag

Check out this little wine tote. It's the new Bagabonn wine bag, at it's best when taken to a picnic. But here's the other bit of news to share while you're filling up your Bagabonn Bag, which by the way comes with a wine cylinder to hold a wine bottle. Have you ever thought about wine consumption by country? Maybe you haven't, but just as I finished the Bagabonn wine bag I wondered if people were taking bottles of wine on picnics these days, and if so, how much are they drinking? Well I couldn't find a link between picnics and wine consumption, but I did learn that Americans consume, per resident on average 2.39 gallons of wine annually. Wanna know more?

  • 1937 .5 gallons a year

  • 1958 .89 gallons a year

  • 1968 1.07 gallons a year

  • 1978 1.96 gallons a year

  • 1988 2.24 gallons a year

  • 1998 1.98 gallons a year

What's your favorite wine? Do you consume the average of 2.39 gallons of wine annually? Cheers!

The Dainty Dirty Handbag

I was reading the newspaper the other day and ran across an article about purses and handbags. Now before I tell you too much about the article, let me ask you a couple of questions. First question, when you come in your home from outside, where do you put your handbag? Second question, when you go to a public restroom where do you put your purse?
Here's the reason for all the questions. The article was about dirty bags, and how we women are carrying around a lot of dirty bags, and it's even more gross if you have children. No disrespect to Moms, but let's face, do we have any idea of the dirt, grime and other stuff that's taken up residence on the base of our purses? There's a national lab that checked out the bottom of handbags and uncovered all kinds of yucky stuff.
So, what do you think I did today? Not only did I put my bag in a plastic bag when I got home, but I placed it on the floor, not the passenger seat, in the car. And in the office, it's new home will be on the hook of the door. A friend of mine says I'm going overboard for a 10-year old purse that's probably already infested with nasty stuff. My response is, we'll just see about that, as soon as I finish sewing my hazard suit to wear while carrying my bag. Just kidding! Tell me about your dirty bag. Ever find chewing gum on the bottom of your bag? What else?

Purse Snatchings

We'll make you a promise. We will not crowd the field of our blog with "bad news", but we thought it would be interesting to find out how often purse snatchings take place. I mean think about it. If you've purchased a snazzy designer bag for upwards of five or six hundred dollars, there's a good chance that you would chase the snatcher, before standing and watching the robber make off with your prized possession.

OK, so we checked with the Department of Justice, which is the federal office that keeps those kinds of statistics and you won't believe how often purse snatchings happen or how often this crime is attempted. In 2005 there were more than 43-thousand 500 purse snatchings and close to 33-hundred attempted purse snatchings.

So here's the good news that you can employ to hold on to that bag. Don't be careless with your bag. When you are in a store don't lay down your purse while you're trying on shoes. You know how there's that tendency to slide on the new shoes and then stroll over to the nearest mirror. A purse snatcher, and I'm sure they'll back me on this, need only a few seconds to grab your purse and run. Also, when you gas up the car and run inside the station to pay, remember to take your bag. Again, the purse snatcher has this crime down to a science and can grab and run with your bag, your identity, while you're in the station paying and if you're like me, making small talk. Got any other suggestions?

Downright Un-American to Say Ugly

You wouldn't have a dinner at a friend's home and say it's the worse meal you've ever tasted. Nor would you tell Bobby Knight he has a bad team. At least not to his face. Could you imagine telling a minister to cut his sermon short? Blasphemous! And perish the thought of telling a Mother her child is "ugly" so why would anyone call a $52,500 handbag ugly? I have one answer. You'd say because in some circles, and not small circles, it's labeled the ugliest bag on the planet. What do you think? Click this link to form an intelligent opinion, but the bag above is without question, a Bagabonn, otherwise known as a Bag of Art!

Purse Snatched? Snatch It Back

If you're like me, you've never even heard of Mishawaka, Indiana. But this is a brief about one woman who took a bold step for handbags and who is today equipped with her purse and dignity. I don't know the woman but let's all say, here! here!

Seems as though our new friend was leaving a grocery story in the small town when a man ran up to her and snatched her purse. After grabbing the purse the man was off and running. Little did he know that this purse Diva would have none of it. She abandoned her cart of groceries for a greater good and went in chase of the man. She ran, he ran. He ran, she ran. Within a few blocks he was home, and I'm sure he thought he was home alone. But no. Our purse Diva arrived moments later and demanded the return of her purse. He demanded her money. She gave up the money albeit temporarily and was given her purse back. The police station was called and tonight Purse Diva and bag are together again. The police officer said the reaction by the Purse Diva is not encouraged or advised, but from one diva to the other, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.
I only wonder the brand of the purse. Was it a $19 canvas tote or perhaps a Hermes?

The Bagabonn Brand

Most times, when someone asks the origin of a name, it's a pretty simple endeavor to find the answer. But with Bagabonn the answer is not right in front of you. We wanted to name our line of bags, Bagabond, as a sort of play on the word vagabond. Our concept was to place the bags for photo sessions in the same settings as where you might find vagabonds. The domain name Bagabond was taken, so we dropped the "d" and added an "n". A kind of marriage of bags and bonbons.

To this day, our brand concept remains unchanged. With the brand to take photos outdoors more often than indoors, to not use pins and measuring devices, to redefine the purpose of fabrics and to simply have fun. Much of our popularity is born in our photo shoots. That's when children and adults stop and stare and ask why are we putting "that beautiful bag" in a construction site, or an alley, or crime scene, or playground? We believe our motto speaks volumes whichever way we say it. It's the Art of the Bag, or A Bag of Art.

Bagabonn History

About two years ago, I was off from my "day job" and putzing around the house in search of something to do. I found a yard of fabric and decided to make a handbag. I showed my finished work to my job associates, who held back laughter and said "are you going to make more?" The translation of that question is, "are you sure you want to show that thing to us?" I laughed out loud at their manners and etiquette for wanting to be kind over cruel. Long story short, I kept at it and continue to work on a craft that really is more folk art and an inherited trait than trained skill. It brings me joy!

Do you ever step out on a limb and find a sense of inner peace and accomplishment that is far from your safe position (your job)? Do you find your driven by the lack of pressure of meeting a deadline or a budget, but just driven by your built in, often untapped, creativity?

Bagabonn Finds the Rich Bag:Most Expensive

Oh who cares the cost of a pricey bag, when there are jeans upwards of $500, cars for more than $300,000, sunglasses for $300-plus and brassieres for more than $1000. But Bagabonn, with price points from $86 to $350 wanted to know if we were even in the ballpark of the rich and famous. The answer is a resounding, "not even close". It's OK, we do a lot with cotton!LOL

B a g a b o n n

Let's face it, we go ga-ga for handbags. Remember when a lady matched her handbag to her shoes. If she wore black patent shoes, there was a matching bag to grace her arm. Times have changed and there seems to be a more open fashion sense about bags and shoes. Still, we are fascinated by handbags. What about you? Do you carry the same bag each day and change up only for church, or an evening affair? Or do you change handbags to match your outfit? Or maybe you're the lady who changes her handbag with the change of seasons?

And let's talk about loyalty. Do you buy one designer exclusively or do you go for what meets your style, your budget, your mood?

This Bags for You

Did you know that there are actually studies that have identified the style of a bag, with the personality of a woman? I didn't give it much thought at first, but now I'm wondering if perhaps those researchers aren't on to something. Tell us what you think.

*The Briefcase: Intelligence and the ability to multi task

*The Photo Bag (you know the bags with the face of your child or animal on it): you value security and close relationships

*The Clutch: capable of streamlining, a back to basics sort of gal

*The Designer Bag: you like the finer things in life

*The Backpack: you're casual and health conscious
